\nto improve balance through brain-ear-body synchrony.
\nFour months now, most every day at 7:00 AM.
\nSo, I watch the ground to avoid banana slugs, snails,
\nunidentifiable splotches of this and that, odd levels of sidewalk,
\ntree-root’s revenge against man’s cementings.<\/p>\n
\nbird-like thoughts flitter through
\nwondering if fork is lonely for knife and spoon.
\nIs this like Kandinsky’s white trouser button
\nglittering in the puddle…everything, he says,
\nhas a secret soul, silent more often than speaking.
\nSo, fork, I’m listening.
\n“Craziness,” the Inquisitor bellows.
\nUsed to that bluster, I listen harder.<\/p>\n
\nProvidence Hospital cafeteria is half-way point
\non my daily route. I stop for coffee and rest.
\nI’ve watched hundreds pick up napkins and utensils.
\nHere’s the thing:
\nmen take one or two napkins,
\nwomen, three or four.
\nMen keep everything separate, women wrap their utensils
\nin their napkins, swaddling-like.<\/p>\n
