I learned his name was “Z”<\/p>\n

because he was always last<\/p>\n

to be chosen or to hear the news.<\/p>\n

Last and lost,<\/i> he repeated, smiling.<\/p>\n

What are those notches?<\/p>\n

Days when something good happens<\/i>.<\/p>\n

And the bad days?<\/p>\n

Man, nothing big enough for that.<\/i><\/p>\n

Could I try out your memory cane?<\/p>\n

No one ever interested before<\/i><\/p>\n

Feels good, nice heft<\/p>\n

I think I’ll make me one.<\/p>\n

Now that’s a good thing<\/p>\n

Worth two notches I’d say<\/p>\n
