The alliance between AI developers, tech corporations, multi-billionaires and deliberate governmental failure, insures that nothing will be done about the dangers of AI, because profits are the driving force. The knowledgeable voices calling for extreme action NOW, are having no impact. The history of the world uniting against existential threat of extinction is not promising. We are facing an inevitability that is rapidly becoming a reality.
Yes, you are quite right about the incredible dangers posed by unregulated AI. Even Bill Gates just published an article speaking to this very issue and how dangerous it will be if the world does not act in concert to put some guardrails around this thing. But the amount of money swirling around AI, which is into the trillions already, is like a huge magnet that is stripping away any concerns that many people are raising. All that most people seem to know is that data centers are popping up all over the place, and they are against that. I am afraid that they, understandably, cannot fathom the true risks of AI, and how it will profoundly change their lives with many negative consequences.
